Workplace for the Future

JOP Architects were commissioned as general planners to design the new headquarters for Microsoft in Switzerland. “The Circle” at Zurich Airport offered the global corporation the opportunity to realise their vision of a “workplace for the future” on approx. 4,500 m². The spatial programme includes various workspaces, meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, catering areas and multimedia centres on two levels. Our Swiss feco partner WSA provided advice on and realised a biophilic, sustainable office working environment for the approximately 600 employees using the feco partition wall system and office furniture.

The large conference rooms are glazed with flush-fitting fecofix double-glazing with all-round 20-mm slim frame profiles and curtains. Focus Rooms are designed with a fecoplan all-glass construction for maximum transparency. fecotür A40 aluminium-frame doors offer with R_w,P = 37 dB good sound insulation against the open team workplaces. The profiles, frames and aluminium frame doors are powder-coated in RAL 7039 Quartz grey.

Frame-integrated technical door side panels allow light switches and sockets to be accommodated. The profiles of the technical door side panels are doubled for the installation of digital room signs. Part of the spatial programme is also the separately designed Microsoft Technology Center (MTC). Here, the frameless flush fecostruct glazing ensures maximum sound insulation. The silver-grey edge bonding in the structural glazing process is 20-mm thin on four sides. The fecostruct profiles are powder-coated in RAL 9006 White aluminium. Matching the fecostruct glazing, access to the rooms is provided by fecotür S70 single- and double-leaf structural glazing doors. The resulting office world takes into account the international Microsoft guidelines for open team-oriented working environments. At the same time, typical local materials, surfaces and textures create a regional reference that is unmistakable and identity-forming. The site offers talented employees a home in a globally active group.
