Although Alcon’s new office landscape in Freiburg is designed as an open space, it is not the generous open spaces that make it so attractive, but rather its “interspaces”. However, the starting point is always the individual workplace: Uniformly equipped with electrically height-adjustable tables, each employee has direct access from their workplace to small think tanks for up to three people. Thanks to corresponding technology, video conferences or short meetings can also take place at each workplace without interference.

Each workplace is designed for maximum functionality. Pinnable acoustic panels ensure a pleasant soundscape and offer space for individual design. Adaptive electrification also makes it possible to charge smartphones and other electronic devices directly at the desk.

Numerous smaller retreat and open meeting areas are included between the work islands and think tanks. Larger open spaces can also be used flexibly as creative spaces. Equipped with movable furniture, mobile whiteboards and table-soccer tables, they are ideal for creative exchange and cooperation. Another meeting place for the office community is the cosy, open-plan kitchenette on each floor.

In the centre of the Alcon Open Space, just like in every town or city, stands a town hall. Folding walls, folding tables and stackable chairs transform these spaces into a conference room, agile workspace or modern pop-up event space in next to no time.

Between the town hall and each desk, the entire furnishings radiate a pleasant cosiness. Warm beige and orange tones combined with natural wood surfaces create a cosy and at the same time concentrated atmosphere for working, and harmonise perfectly with the blue CI colour, which forms the basis of the colour concept.
